Have you ever had one of those go-to recipes that you make over and over again no matter what the occasion? Whether it be holiday celebrations, family get togethers or even work parties, my crowd pleasing secret weapon is this super simple, puff pastry wrapped brie with spicy red pepper jelly.
I borrowed this recipe from Taylor’s mom. She made it at Christmas one year and I loved that it was so easy to make and can be shared with a group of people. Okay I admit, what I really liked about it was how impressive it looks, how delicious it tastes and how it takes next to no time to whip up. I suppose you could make your own puff pastry jelly compote to be super extra about it. But, who’s got time for that? Save yourself the stress and a whole afternoon and just use store bought. There are times when scratch made is best, this is not one.
This time, I picked up small wheel of Président Cheese Brie. It’s imported from France but is also available made in Canada with the same methods that are used in France. I love that I can get that rich texture and the complex earthy aroma of a French brie but much more affordable.
Here’s your grocery list:
- 1 wheel Président cheese
- 1 package of store-bought puff pastry
- 1 jar of your favourite red pepper jelly
- 1 egg
- Toasted sesame seeds
Roll out the thawed puff pastry, place the Président cheese in the centre and add a dollop of spicy red pepper jelly right on top. Start at one end and fold the pastry over the brie going all the way around. Brush with an egg wash and bake until it gets beautifully golden brown.
It was my first time using this brand and it’s perfect. Rich and indulgent; I can’t think of an easier way to wow guests during the holidays. Serve it alongside a charcuterie board, fruit or some toast. Most importantly, don’t tell anyone how easy it was, that secret is between you and me. 🙂
Try it for yourself and I guarantee you’ll make it again and again. What are some of your holiday hacks for easy entertaining?
Puff Pastry Wrapped Brie
Crispy golden exterior with a gooey warm brie centre.
- 1 wheel Président Brie
- 1/4 cup red pepper jelly
- 1 sheet puff pastry thawed but chilled
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp honey
- 2 tsp toasted sesame seeds
Preheat oven to 400F.
On a piece of parchment, roll out the puff pastry dough. Place the brie wheel in the centre, spread the red pepper jelly on top to cover the surface of the brie.
Start on one side and fold the pastry over the brie, going at the way around until you’ve wrapped the brie fully. Whisk the egg and brush it all over the puff pastry.
Bake for 35-45 minutes until golden brown on the outside, rotating the sheet halfway.
Remove from the oven and gently brush the exterior with honey and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
Many thanks to Président cheese for sponsoring this post.
