My current obsession: Mulled Apple Cider. I didn’t grow up drinking apple cider and I don’t really enjoy drinking fruit juices because of the calorie intake. But theres something about hot apple cider that I just can’t say no to. First of all it’s a hot drink which anything hot is amazing when its freezing out. Secondly, the spices infused with the apple cider makes be feel like I’m drinking a cup of apple pie.. and lets be real, if you could have a hot apple pie in drink form, why wouldn’t you?
I thought about making apple cider from scratch but felt it was a little too ambitious for me at this time, especially because I just really wanted that cup of hot apple cider. The mulling spices I used were cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, all-spice berries, apple and orange slices. I brought the liquid to a boil, covered and simmered the mix for 15 minutes and you have yourself the most delicious and easy mulled apple cider!
You could make this Hot Apple Cider in a large batch if you’re hosting a holiday party, keep it in a crockpot on the warm setting and ladle as people would love. Spike it with rum or brandy for an adult version!
Homemade Mulled Apple Cider
Mulled apple cider is a winter favourite of mine. I love the cinnamon, cloves, all-spice and orange flavours that really enhance that apple juice.
- 2 litres fresh apple cider
- 1 medium apple sliced
- 1 orange sliced
- 1 tbsp whole cloves
- 10 all-spice berries
- 2 six inch cinnamon sticks broken in half
In a large pot or a dutch oven, add the fresh apple cider, sliced apple, sliced orange, whole cloves, all-spice berries and cinnamon sticks.
Bring the mixture to a boil. Cover and simmer on low for 10-15 minutes.
