04 Feb How to Make Homemade Chocolate Crunch Bars
With Valentine’s day just around the corner, I wanted to come up with some super easy Valentine’s day treats that you can make and gift to your girlfriends! My absolutely guilty pleasure has to be chocolate. It’s always a toss up between dark chocolate or milk chocolate. I love the bitterness of dark chocolate but the creaminess of milk, let’s be real though, I will eat either if placed in front of me, haha.
Growing up, my favourite chocolate bars were Twix, 3 Musketeers, Skor, Crunchie and Crunch. LOL, I just realized my sweet tooth started at a very young age. I wanted to recreate one of my favourite childhood treats so I’m making these homemade chocolate crunch bars!
They are extremely easy to make and are made with four basic ingredients you might already have sitting in your pantry. All you need are rice puffs or rice cereal, dark chocolate, coconut oil and a pinch of salt! Okay.. five if you include the sprinkles but those are completely optional but totally fun for decorating! They are also vegan AND gluten-free!
In a bowl, break up a large bar of dark chocolate. My favourite chocolate to bake with is PC’s Extra Dark Chocolate bars! I love that they are good quality and at a great price point, #win! Either melt the chocolate over a double boiler or pop it in the microwave, stirring every 20 seconds to make sure the chocolate doesn’t burn. Next you want to whisk in a pinch of salt and add a tablespoon of coconut oil. I love cooking with coconut oil, it’s a healthy fat and tastes delicious!
Whisk until the chocolate, salt and coconut oil is well mixed then pour in those light and airy rice puffs! Mix it until all the rice puffs are nicely coated with the chocolate and transfer it to a lined baking pan. Place the chocolate into the freezer for about 10-15 minutes until the chocolate is set. Cut into large chunks, because bigger is better and enjoy! I picked up these cute pink Chinese take out containers to package these treats up!
Homemade Chocolate Crunch Bars
These super delicious and super easy homemade chocolate crunch bars are made of 4 ingredients. Rice cereal, dark chocolate, coconut oil and a pinch of salt! Perfect for Valentine's day.
- 2 cups dark chocolate broken into chunks
- 1 tbsp coconut oil melted
- 1 cup rice cereal
- 1 pinch salt
In a microwave safe bowl, melted the dark chocolate. Stirring the chocolate every 20 seconds to ensure the chocolate does not burn.
Whisk in the melted coconut oil and a pinch of salt.
Mix in the rice cereal and stir until the rice puffs and fully coated in chocolate.
Transfer to a baking pan lined with parchment or wax paper. Top with pretty pink sprinkles and place in the freeze for 10-15 minutes until the chocolate has set.
Remove the chocolate from the pan and chop into smaller pieces. Store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer if you prefer! Enjoy!
I usually melted my chocolate over a double boiler but decided to try out the microwave method to see how it would work, and it works just perfectly!
