DIY Photo Boxes

DIY Photo Boxes

For Mother’s Day, instead of purchasing both my moms Mother’s Day cards, like I always do, I created these DIY Photo Boxes that I personalized and know they will love. The best part is you can fill them with cute little gifts like lipsticks, candy, hand lotion or cute bars of soap.

You’ll need to start with bristol board cut to size 34 cm x 24.5 cm. You’ll need to measure out twelve squares within this sheet.

With a ruler, start measuring out four 8 cm boxes up the longer side of the sheet. You’ll have about 2 cm left, this will be for the tab to tuck into the box. Across the shorter length, measure out three squares measuring 8 cm -> 8.5 cm -> 8 cm.

To cut out the tab, feel free to draw a faint line to help when cutting and erase afterwards.

With a paper cutter or a ruler and exacto knife, line up the ruler with the markings for your 8 cm x 8 cm boxes. Lightly run the exacto knife down markings to score the paper so that it’s easier to bend.

Once you’ve scored and folded your sheet into little boxes, you’ll have something that looks like this!

Next, you’ll want to cut the boxes along the scored lines you just created, just until you hit the middle column. You want to keep the middle column intact.

I can’t remember the last time I used a glue stick but this was fun! Grab your design paper or wrapping paper, whatever you’d like and measure it out so it fits your sheet. Glue the pretty paper to the outside of your box. Before the glue fully dries, give your box a little fold along all the creases.

For the interior of the box, measure and cut 7.5 cm x 7.5 cm boxes of different (or same) design paper as well as photographs and glue them to the centre of each box. There’s no real science to it, just go with it. I left the two middle boxes to write a cute message to my moms.

Fill the box with whatever little gifts you think your mom would love! I filled one with sweet gummies and a pretty lipstick and the other with a cute bar soap and my favourite hand lotion. And obviously, a handful of rose petals!

Tie up your cute little package with pretty organza or satin ribbon and you’re all done! I had so much fun rummaging through old photos and I know my mom will really love this! If you’re looking for other gift ideas, check out my Mother’s Day Gift Guide for some inspo!

Hope you enjoyed this super easy DIY Photo Box tutorial! You can pretty much use it for any occasion, a bridal shower (decorated with photos of you and the bride), a birthday gift (filled with confetti or sprinkles and a gift card), for Father’s Day (filled with baseball tickets and popcorn!)

Have fun with it! If you have any other DIY’s you want me to try, let me know in the comments! 🙂
