This year, I’ve been trying to place a bigger emphasis on practicing self-care everyday, even if they are just little things. Life pulls us in so many different directions. In an attempt to try to do everything, sometimes I end up accomplishing nothing. For me, doing small things everyday and making little changes in my life, dramatically affects my physical, mental and emotional health.
I want to share some of the self-care practices I’ve been doing lately, you may or may not already be practicing them but I hope you find this insightful!
You’ve probably seen these 5-minute journals everywhere! Practicing gratitude everyday helps me to focus on the good in my life (especially when I’m having what seems like the worst day), to set good intentions for my day (keeping an open mind and open heart) and to become more mindful so that I can find inner peace and happiness.
2. Rose Quartz Roller
I didn’t understand the benefits of crystal rollers until I started using one. Rose quartz is known as the “love stone” and represents unconditional love (especially for self love). I like to keep my roller in the fridge to use every morning. I’ve incorporated it into my daily routine, while I’m waiting for my coffee to brew every morning. It helps to soothe my skin of any puffiness or inflammation, helps with drainage and increases blood circulation. Not to mention, it’s relaxing.
3. Be Mindful of Ingredients
A couple months ago I made a conscious effort to be more mindful of what I put in and on my body. I read ingredients on food products ALL the time but I rarely read ingredients on beauty products, crazy! This thought came about when I woke up, for 4 weeks straight, with red, raw, irritated eyelids. This ended up being a really bad reaction to certain ingredients in everyday household products.
This was when I had my ah-ha moment. I discovered Secret Aluminum-Free deodorant which is paraben, dye, aluminum-free and works with my lifestyle.
I’ve been using Secret Aluminum-Free deodorant for about 2 months now and I can honestly say, I love it. I love the way it feels, it has long-lasting odour protection, goes on clear and most importantly, is gentle on my skin. It’s available in three gentle scents; Rosewater, Honeydew and Daylily. You definitely need to give it a try!
4. Stop To Smell The
I find that I’m always so worried about trying to do everything, trying to see and please everyone that I forget to take time to just enjoy and to live in the moment. This is something I continuously have to practice and remind myself to stop and smell the roses. It’s not about the destination but about the journey.
5. Read More
Earlier this year, I made a goal to read 24 books. That’s 2 books a month, sounds easy enough, right? I maybe a little behind on that goal but I’m making a conscious effort to read for at least 30 minutes before bed every night, rather than aimlessly scrolling on my phone, like I do every night. It’s crazy to think that the amount of time I spend on my phone, I could read over a hundred books in a year!
What are some ways you practice self-care?
